Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information that may be received during a visit, the reasons it may be used, and the limited situations in which it may reach another service. By continuing to use the website, you accept these privacy practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log or database of the terms entered there.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email may be retained long enough to review and answer it. Messages remain within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal duty.

Data We Gather Automatically

Loading a page may cause the server to receive basic technical details about the visit:

  • Page-view times and the length of a visit
  • The pages opened during the session
  • Browser type and version
  • Device type and operating system
  • The referring website, when one is reported
  • The device's assigned IP address

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help combine traffic data, such as which pages are used most and where visits end. A browser can block cookies, although doing so may change how parts of the site function.

What We Do With This Data

  • Routing a submitted query to the selected search provider
  • Finding and correcting security or performance problems
  • Understanding which pages are useful or need revision
  • Operating the website and keeping pages responsive
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

We do not compile, maintain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. The published material identifies official custodians for Ontonagon County records, including the sheriff, the 98th District and 32nd Circuit courts, Michigan State Police CJIC, and the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into a third-party dossier or consumer report, and this website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Independent companies power the search boxes. Information submitted to one of those tools is governed by that company's privacy policy. Because each provider controls its own retention and sharing rules, review those terms before running a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to sheriff and court pages, Michigan agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. The destination's privacy policy applies after leaving this website, so read it before providing personal data.

Advertising companies may use their own systems to follow activity across websites and select targeted ads. We do not operate that tracking.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:

  • Analytics providers measuring website use and performance
  • Search partners receiving a query submitted through their tool
  • Advertising networks serving material on a page
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for information in our control. No internet service can promise perfect security, however, and we cannot guarantee that a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If a minor's data has been submitted, ask that it be removed.

Your Data Rights

Applicable law may provide rights over personal data. Michigan FOIA, MCL 15.231 et seq., governs records of public bodies, while MCL 28.242a governs dissemination of state criminal-history information. Those public-record laws do not turn this private website into a government custodian. Subject to applicable law, you may:

  • Request deletion of personal data we control
  • Ask for access to information held about you
  • Seek correction of inaccurate information
  • Object to certain forms of processing where the law allows

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised. Any new version will appear here with its effective date, so returning to this section is the best way to review the current terms.
